Characterization@UBC is a newly funded research cluster at UBC that unites experts across departments and faculties who lead state-of-the-art facilities in advanced characterization across both campuses - Vancouver and Okanagan. Together, the cluster will build a strong and collaborative research network to share knowledge and know-how, mobilize expertise, and drive innovation in materials research.

Developing advanced materials is essential to driving technological change across many sectors. Unlocking their potential requires deep understanding of their structure and chemistry through advanced characterization. Our mission is to foster interdisciplinary collaboration, sustain a vibrant research community, and push the boundaries of what’s possible in materials research and innovation.

We advance our goals through a wide range of events and activities to connect our community and build shared expertise. These include regular seminars, hands-on workshops, and training schools that bring members together across disciplines and campuses. By highlighting and providing access to shared facilities at both UBC campuses, we aim to ensure that trainees and researchers are aware of the tools, resources, and expertise available to support their research work.
