We are proud to announce the newly funded research cluster "Characterization@UBC", supported by the 2025/26 Grants for Catalyzing Research Clusters (GCRC).
This cluster is led by Dr. Ben Britton from Materials Engineering, alongside the management team members Dr. Mark Martinez (CHBE), Dr. Anette von der Handt (EOAS), and Dr. Ismail El Baggari (incoming Assistant Professor in Physics). Bringing together principal investigators and lab directors across both the Vancouver and Okanagan campuses, Characterization@UBC will connect expertise, foster interdisciplinary collaboration, and strengthen community around materials characterization.
Materials characterization plays a vital role in understanding the relationship between a material’s structure, properties, and performance. This knowledge underpins technological advances across diverse sectors, including advanced manufacturing, electronics, and healthcare, and many more.
We are proud to celebrate this achievement and look forward to the collaborations this will bring. Read the official UBC release here.
